Recently, Tom and I visited friends in DeBary, FL, who gave us a tour of their neighborhood. The community gym had three inspirational mottoes on the walls, arranged in the same order as shown below. ~~Leah Rewolinski

Here are more shots of our competitors and volunteers at The Villages Senior Games, April 23-24. What fun! Thanks to Mort and Stella O'Shea for providing the photos.
Our athletes outdid themselves at the track & field events of The Villages Senior Games, held April 23-24 at The Villages Charter High School campus. In addition, many volunteers lent their skills to organize and judge the events. Below is a sampling of the action on both days. Thanks to Doug Bartel and Mort O'Shea for their excellent visual contributions. ~~Leah Rewolinski Please note that due to limitations in our website software, Doug's photo gallery shows "thumbnails" only. Team, I have talked with many of you about the phases that we need to execute when racing or training for a 100-meter race. This discussion from a YouTube presenter (see below) is a classic teaching. It is essentially the same as I have taught you, but a little more detailed, and the presentation is professional. Different coaches use different phase names, but the concept here is solid. This video will make the information available to you anytime you want to review it. Some things to keep in mind: Sprint athletes our age will reach acceleration and max velocity sooner than the professional athletes shown. What that means from an energy use standpoint is that we will be running in the deceleration phase longer than the percentages discussed. In fact, for us, all of the percentages discussed will be different. As I have always said, “sprint fitness” is a powerful personal tool for a masters sprinter. Enjoy! ~~Rick Riddle |
